Data Warehousing is a subset of the Database market. It is distinguished by the type of information stored and its uses. 
In effect the Data Warehouse is a summary database for several databases within an enterprise.  It summarizes all transactions by a defined period or type and is defined to better represent business divisions within the enterprise.

As technology advances and users demand more information, enterprise Data Warehouses have began storing additional information and now more often used not just for transactional summaries, but to combine information of all types that need to be displayed in a company’s Intranet or EIP.
